The 25th Annual Brookline Breeze was
held on August 12, 2006. The sun was shining and the air was cool. It was a
beautiful day to celebrate 25 years of running tradition in Brookline,
and race organizer Debbie Brust went all out to provide the community with
a celebration to remember.
The race attracted several runners
from the Pittsburgh Metropolitan area, including hundreds from the Brookline
community. Registrations swelled to over 400 for the first time in several
years, and everyone was treated to a fine show.
The post-race awards presentation
included a special award for three of the Breeze's founding fathers.
Mike Radley, Danny O'Brien and Jim Turcol were all presented with a
bottle of champagne, a glimmering party hat and the heartfelt thanks of
everyone, past and present, who have benefited from their hard work and
dedication over the past 25 years.
Following the awards presentation,
a Community Festival was held in the adjacent park grounds. Live bands
took the stage and filled the air with a timely mix of rock 'n roll
classics. Special attractions included a petting zoo, pony rides, a
moonwalk and balloon artists. The feature attraction was a climbing wall
that towered skyward, and attracted quite a crowd of eager
adventurers.
The 25th running of the Brookline
Breeze was definitely a day to remember, and special thanks must go out
to race organizer Debbie Brust, who worked tirelessly for several months
to make this day possible. Thanks also to the sponsors, the volunteers,
and Citiparks, whose generosity and assistance have made the Brookline
Breeze one of the best community races in the City of Pittsburgh.
