Pittsburgh's Golden Triangle - 1938
Aerial View of downtown Pittsburgh on a clear day in 1938. The country has just pulled out of the Great Depression and the country will soon be involved in another World War. There is a lot of detail in this photo, such as the strip district and the parking lot along the Monongahela River bank where the paved wharf and Parkway ramps will one day be located. Note the Cathedral of Learning uptown on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh, built in the late 1920s. The photo below shows a closeup of downtown Pittsburgh.
