Pittsburgh's Golden Triangle - 1969
The Golden Triangle in 1969. The first major city transformation is nearing its completion. The old bridges at the Point will be demolished the following year. The Fort Duquesne Bridge is a "Bridge to Somewhere" as it now extends to the North Side and the new Three Rivers Stadium (out of view to the left) that is under construction. Point State Park has taken on most of its current form. The only piece to that puzzle left to build is the fountain, which must wait for the bridge demolition. Also note the new US Steel Building, under construction in the rear. Soon it will be the tallest skyscraper in the United States between the Empire State Building in New York and the Sears Tower in Chicago. New clean air standards are also helping with the smoke from the steel industry, which unfortunately has only but a few years left as king of the "Steel City."
