Beechview/Dormont Real Estate
Advertisements
1901-1917
The following are real estate advertisements from the period 1901 through 1917 for the new housing tracts being developed in the Beechwood (Beechview) and Dormont neighborhoods. These clippings offer a nice glimpse into the past, with information of the formation of the communities and some rare pictures taken during the initial construction of the housing plans. Much like the Freehold Real Estate announcements for the Brookline area around the same time, these ads also center around the clean air, modern utilities and suburban feel of these new South Hills developments. The ads also tout the convenience of transportation offered by the Mount Washington Transit Tunnel and the new electrified transit lines, which dramatically shortened travel time to Pittsburgh. One line ran through the Beechwood section of West Liberty Borough, and the other was the Charleroi interurban line that ran along West Liberty Avenue past Brookline, Dormont and Mount Lebanon. ♦ 1901 ♦ ♦ 1902 ♦ ♦ 1903 ♦ ♦ 1904 ♦ ♦ 1905 ♦ ♦ 1916 ♦ ♦ 1917 ♦ * Click on images below for larger pictures * |
