On September 25, 2010, the T-Ball
field at Brookline Memorial Park was named in honor of one of Brookline's,
and the City of Pittsburgh's, fallen heroes. A local resident, Officer
Stephen J. Mayhle, age 29, was killed on April 4, 2009, during a police
standoff in Stanton Heights, along with fellow officers Eric G. Kelly and
Paul Sciullo II. The three fallen policemen were mourned by the entire
nation. Their sacrifice brought to light both the dangers encountered by,
and the selfless dedication of, our law enforcement authorities.

Initiated by a resolution put forth
by District 4 Councilwoman Natalia Rudiak, the somber dedication ceremony
was attended by a large gathering of public officials, uniformed officers,
Brookline Little League officers and ballplayers, neighborhood residents
and the Mayhle family. The ballfield named after Officer Mayhle is used
extensively in the spring and summer months by the BLLA Pinto, Mustang and
Instructional programs.

Brookline Memorial Park has four
ballfields. The lower multi-purpose field was named in 1977 after Danny
McGibbeny, whose life
was cut short by cancer. The upper Little League fields were named in 1981
after Sam Bryen, the Father of the Brookline Little
League. The T-Ball field, built in 2001, now carries a name
of honor: Stephen J. Mayhle Memorial Field.
