This home at 1700 Saw Mill Run Boulevard
stood at the corner with Whited Street since the late 1800s. Shown here in 1945,
the former vintage Reflectorville, then Overbrook, estate home with a large front
yard became part of an Amoco service station in the 1930s, owned by the Clement's
family, after the 1929 construction of Saw Mill Run Boulevard.

at the bottom of Whited (Oak) Street, shown in the early-1920s.
The home, now listed as 1700 Saw Mill Run
Boulevard, in 1934 (left) and 1936.
The boulevard passed right through the
front yard, so close to the home that the front porch had to be removed to make
room for the sideway. The side yard adjacent to Whited Street was used for the
placement of gas pumps. Over the years, beginning in 1945, the property underwent
several changes and upgrades. The photos below show how it was transformed over
the decade following the above 1945 photo.
In 1946 there was a new building on the lot,
a two-car service garage.
A 1947 fire destroyed the attendants office
and the service shed. The home
was soon torn down to be replaced by a much larger service station.
In 1950, the property was now home to the
new and enlarged Clement's Amoco Service Station.
In 1950, the new Clement's service station was
also franchised with a new brand of gasoline, Mobil.
By 1954, the Mobil service station was still
there, but the building was also home to Clement's Sport Shop.
The lot at 1700 Saw Mill Run Boulevard is now
occupied by the Jack Maggs Agency.
