Breining Street at Eben Street - 1953

This is Breining Street at the intersection with Eben Street in 1953, looking towards Carmalt Elementary School in the distance. The Brookline Community Center, not visible, is down the hillside to the left. The street is still an unpaved and narrow two-lane roadway with little protection from the steep hillside to the left. Residents and motorists voiced much concern over this dangerous and highly trafficked stretch of Breining Street. In 1956, the city finally acted, and Breining Street was widened and resurfaced from Brookline Boulevard through to Glenbury Street in Overbrook.
