Classic Cars fill the lower lot
of Brookline Park - May 25, 2011

On May 25, 2011, the Brookline Recreation Center hosted a Spring Car Cruise. It was the 12th car show at Brookline Park since the fun began back in 2005. The temperature hovered around 80 degrees and the sun was shining brightly, a good sign after a wetter than normal spring. It was a perfect evening for a party at the Community Center and a trip back in time. The lower lot was full of classic vehicles. The party was on!

Music filled the air, as DJ Tony Guarino, a Brookline classic in his own right, surfed his way through a variety of classic tunes. The aroma of hot dogs and hamburgers added to the festive atmosphere. A steady crowd worked their way around the lot admiring the many beautiful vehicles. The Pittsburgh Police were on hand with the Bomb Squad truck and their armored SWAT truck. Visitors got a first-hand look at some of the challenges that face our SWAT officers.

As the evening ran down, votes were cast for the People's Choice Award winner. While raffle prizes were distributed, the votes were counted. The People's Choice was a 1964 Maroon Pontiac GTO owned by John Cherevka. John has owned the prized Goat since December 1963, when he purchased it at Downtown Pontiac on West Liberty Avenue. The Runner-Up was a 1965 Baby Blue Ford Thunderbird, owned by Diane Craig. Honorable Mention went to Jay Stasko and his 1979 Chevy Caprice.

It was a fun night for everyone in attendance. The Recreation Center staff would like to thank all of our patrons who helped make the 2011 Spring Car Cruise a rousing success. We hope to see you all again on August 12, 2011 for our Brookline Breeze Week show. As always, special thanks to Job Bob Greico, whose tireless efforts and enthusiasm are one of the key ingredients in our growing string of successful Car Cruise events.
