Brookline Recreation Center
Festival Fever - The Mayor's Family Fun Fest and
The Brookline Community Celebration
August 5, 2010

Family Fun Fest.

On August 5, the Brookline community was treated to dual festivals at Brookline Park. Mayor Luke Ravenstahl's Family Fun Fest and the Pittsburgh Baptist Church's Community Family Celebration were held simultaneously on the lawn. A carnival atmosphere was present, with several inflatables, lawn games, face painting booths and plenty of good food for everyone.

The Roving Art Cart offered some splendid back-to-school and craft activities, along with plenty of prizes. Door prizes were also raffled off throughout the evening by Pastor Kim of Pittsburgh Baptist. The Bureau of Fire brought their touch truck, which doubles as the Engine House #26 pumper during emergencies, and the Pittsburgh S.W.A.T team was on hand to show off their hardware. The evening culiminated with the Comcast Cinema in the Park presentation of the feature movie "Alvin and the Chipmunks."

The community thanks Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, the Citiparks Special Events, Community Enrichment, Audio/Visual and Recreation Center staffs. Thanks also to Pastor Kim of the Pittsburgh Baptist Church, located on Pioneer Avenue, Pastor Jerry Long of the Shandon Baptist Church of Columbia, South Carolina, and the many volunteers who sponsored the Community Celebration. Together, they helped make this a special day here in Brookline.

Note: Pittsburgh Baptist and Shandon Baptist also sponsored a summer basketball camp for boys and girls, age 8 to 11, at the Brookline Recreation Center from August 2-5.
