On Sunday, October 18, Brookline's
undefeated CitiParks team, P.V.'s Pizza, brought home the CitiParks
Sophomore Division championship with a 2-1 victory over Heinz at Duquesne
University. Jonathon Stenger's two second period goals and Nicole
Dittler's outstanding goal-tending prowess were key contributors in
an excellent team performance against a talented Heinz squad.
The two teams grinded it out,
with the defense keeping the upper hand in a scoreless first half.
Midway through the second half, Heinz opened the scoring to take a 1-0
advantage. Stenger responded immediately with his first tally to even
things up at one goal apiece. Jonathon's second goal came with six
minutes to go in the game, putting Brookline ahead to stay. From then
on it was the P.V. defenders who rose to the occasion, silencing the
opposition to bring home the title.
A final scoring opportunity was
missed when Brookline was awarded a penalty kick and Stenger's shot was
blocked. Other notable performances were turned in by Brett Dusch with
his aggressive mid-field play, and by Jason Dusch, whose pinpoint
throw-ins kept Brookline's offense on the move. Many spirited fans were
also in attendance to cheer on our boys and girls in red. We extend our
sincerest congratulations to coaches Tom McMillen, John Miller, and the
entire P.V's squad, who all season long have proved what teamwork and
dedication can accomplish as they brushed aside all opposition en route
to an untarnished record.
