Brookline Boulevard in May of 1967. The upper photo shows the intersection at Castlegate Avenue, where the firehouse stands. The trolley tracks had recently been paved over and motorists were delighted with the ease of transportation on the increasingly busy roadway. The photo below is taken from in front of the firehouse looking towards Pioneer Avenue. In 1967, and well into the 1970s, a Foodland Grocery Store occupied the building next to the firehouse that is now home to Pitaland, a middle-eastern bakery and grocery store.
