The undefeated, untied 1990
Brookline Termite football team (8-0) ended its season with a 28-6
victory over Crafton in the opening game of the Western Pennsylvania
Youth Football League championship finale at Greenfield.
Led by quarterback Mike Kenny,
split end Barry Guyy and running back Justin Rhule, who also contributed
a safety and interception on defense, the young Knights joined their
older Midget counterparts, winners of the final contest as Brookline
brought home two out of three WPYFL titles. A Mitey-Mite defeat in the
middle contest prohibited a clean sweep, but the two titles were a first
for the steadily improving Brookline youth football program.
Congratulations to head coach Russ
Creely, coach Robert Richards, Tracy Rhule and her talented group of
cheerleaders, and the entire Termite team for a great year. President
Dan Smaglo, in only his first season at the helm, has positioned his
Knights as the team to beat in the 1990s. With such a talented group
ready to move on to the next level, the chances look promising that this
could be the decade of the Green and Gray warriors from
Brookline.
