On Saturday, July 28, 2015, both of
the Brookline Little League Association's 12-Under girls softball teams made
it to PNC Park for the annual Pittsburgh Citiparks B.I.G. League Mayor's
Cup title game, both having won their respective divisions. It was the fourth
trip in four years for the neighborhood girls, and this time, regardless of
the outcome, Brookline was guaranteed a championship victory.
In a memorable contest featuring friends
and neighbors, the Brookline Red team came out on top over the Brookline Blue
team by the score of 6-3. Both teams scored three runs in the first, then Red
held Blue scoreless for the remainder of the game while adding two runs of
their own in the third inning and one in the sixth. Brookline Red out-hit
Brookline Blue 12-10 and both teams left eight runners on in what turned out
to be a rather evenly matched contest.

being handed the Mayor's Cup Trophy by Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto.
After the game, Red Team Manager Tara
Garrubba was handed the Mayor's Cup trophy by B.I.G. League Director Joe Defeo
and the players received their individual medallions. The girls then celebrated
what was Brookline's third title in four years.
On this day, all of the Brookline girls
represented were acknowledged by the fans as champions. The game was merely an
afterthought and an entertaining display by twenty-eight hometown ladies. On
their way off the field, all of the girls gathered for a group photo.
Previous Brookline
winners include the 1995 12-Under boys, the 2012 12-Under girls, the 2012 15-Under girls and the 2014 12-Under girls. Others to reach the title game were the 1994 12-Under boys, the 2013 12-Under girls and the 2013 15-Under girls.
