Harley's Express Moving & General Hauling - 1915
|
The home, family and employees of George T. Harley, at 132 Brookline Boulevard (now Bodkin Street), and his business, Wm. J. Harley Express Moving & General Hauling, located next door. The Harley's Express business, founded by George Harley's father, William J. Harvey of Lawrenceville, and had been around for several years prior to opening the Brookline location in 1909. The company remained active into the 1920s, while the family of George Harley lived in the adjacent home until the late-1930s. The home, barn and attached one-story stucco office building were eventually sold to Fred Breauninger, who started the South Hills Sewing Machine Company. The company was in operation from the mid-1940s to the late-1950s. The home and frame barn are no longer standing, but the white stucco office building is still there, at 165 Brookline Boulevard.
