APRIL 18 - In honor of Earth Day 2015, the boys and girls of Brookline came together for the 10th annual Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful "Pick It Up, PA" project, part of the Great American Cleanup. One team worked their way through Brookline Park, then along Breining Street, Brookline Boulevard and Fitch Way, while another went west to tidy up Moore Park. When the cleanup was finished, these hardy youngsters had collected quite an assortment of tires, garbage and other discarded debris.

The Cleanup Project here in Brookline was coordinated by Keith Knecht of the South Pittsburgh Development Corporation (SPDC), a local community action group, and the Brookline Recreation Center staff. City-wide effort are directed by coordinators from the Pennsylvania Resources Council. Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful is statewide effort to help eliminate illegal dumping and littering in Pennsylvania. Every year on Earth Day weekend, concerned citizens throughout the state join in the pickup. This year the park cleanup was a week late due to the Easter holiday.

When the morning was over and the clock struck noon, the staff and kids gathered back at the Recreation Center for some well-deserved refreshments, including pizza provided by Antonio's Pizzeria. Hat off to all the youngsters who did a great job scouring the hillsides, nooks and crannies for loose trash.

Thanks also to the many community volunteers who made our 11th annual park cleanup another success. Your hard work really and dedication really does make a difference.

Special Thanks go out to our sponsors, South Pittsburgh Development Corporation (SPDC), Antonio's Pizzeria and our partners in Citiparks for their continued support of the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful project and our efforts here in Brookline Park.
