Elementary - 1942
Defense Stamp Drive
Brookline Elementary School was the top contributor in the city public school system during the Defense Stamp Drive of 1942. With America's entry into World War II, schools across America sponsored fund-raising drives such as this to help generate the funds necessary for the war effort.
The Pittsburgh Public School System sponsored a drive to raise money for the war effort through the sale of defense stamps. At this time in 1942 the school system had nearly reached its goal of $400,000, and Brookline School took the top honors for the fundraising year. Brookline, like every other community throughout the United States, was very active in the war effort, and in some small way helped in the inevitable triumph over tyranny.
