Girls Scouts - 1936
Here is the Girl Scout Staff at Camp Redwing on July 31, 1936. The camp, located near Butler PA, has been a popular place for local Girl Scouts since it opened in 1923. Some of the ladies in the photo are from the Resurrection Church Girl Scout Troop #1, one being Ruth Catherine Mullen of 925 Bellaire Avenue, standing in the top row, fifth from the right. Ruth, a graduate of Resurrection Elementary and North Catholic High School, served in the U.S. Navy WAVES in World War II and re-enlisted during the Korean War. She later went on to a career as a woman's fashion buyer for the Joseph Horne Company in downtown Pittsburgh. Note that the picture of the camp counselors was taken by renowned Pittsburgh photographer Brady Stewart. Pictured here are: * Photo provided by Bill Mullen * |
