South Brook Middle School - 2010
South Brook Middle School, located 779 Dunster Street, opened in 2001. It is part of the school complex that includes West Liberty Elementary, South Brook and the Pioneer Education Center. Construction began on the middle school in 2000. The new school came about as an answer to the "neighborhood schools" initiative, aimed at accomodating the growing number of Brookline children seeking a neighborhood school alternative.
South Brook incorporated a portion of the existing Pioneer Education Center building, which was renovated and expanded. West Liberty Elementary now serves students from grades K-5, and South Brook serves grades 6-8.
