Moore Park swimming pool on the day of the
grand re-opening - Saturday, June 25, 2022.
During the summer of 2020, when
Moore Pool was closed due to the pandemic, engineers discovered some
serious problems with the foundation and filtration system, along
with a few other significant issues. Permanent closure of the pool
was an option, but the city opted to invest $900,000 in a comprehensive
repair and refurbishment. This was great news for Brookliners.

The project was delayed due to
supply shortages with some of the needed materials, and the pool was
not ready for the Summer of 2021. However, by the spring of 2022 the
project was nearing completion and it was announced that the pool would
be ready to open on schedule in June.

The grand reopening was planned
for June 25, 2022. Tony Guarino, of Guarino Group Productions, was hired
to oversee an accompanying festival in the adjacent ballfield, complete
with plenty of refreshments and a day-long schedule of live
entertainment.
When the big day came, a fine crowd
was on hand for the festivities, including Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey and
several dignitaries. The Pirate Parrot and one speedy Pierogie were also
present to spread a bit of their zany cheer.

The weather was perfect for a
special day of fun and excitement to celebrate the reopening of the Moore
Park pool, one of Brookline's summer treasures for over eighty years, and
counting!
