It's hard to believe that nine years have passed since the
terrorist attacks of 9/11/01. Many of the players we came to
watch today were only babies then. Some had not yet been born.
The March of Time is constant, as is the threat of terrorism
both here and abroad. Let's never forget the feelings of utter
disbelief, sadness and loss experienced on that terrible day.
We are still at war, and over 100,000 of our brave sons and
daughters are deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, struggling
every day to keep us safe here at home. Thousands have made
the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom. Honor them!
WEEK #3 - September 11, 2010
8-UNDER
Montour 8 - BROOKLINE 6
Scoring Summary:
Marques Watson 80 run (conversion failed)
NOTES: Brookline's little Knights lost a heart-breaker to the
Montour Spartans, 8-6. For twenty-nine minutes Brookline held
on to a slim 6-0 lead only to see it vanish with three minutes
to go. It was a tough loss, but the team played a solid game.
Marques Watson got things rolling right from the start with an
eighty yard TD on Brookline's first drive. A failed conversion
held the Knights to only six points. Another promising second
quarter drive ended with a fumble at the Spartan goal line.
The Brookline defense kept the Montour attack under control
until late in the fourth quarter. With the clock ticking down,
a Spartan runner found a hole and never looked back, tying the
game at 6-all. A good conversion run gave Montour a two-point
edge and that was enough to secure the victory.

WEEK #3 - September 11, 2010
10-UNDER
BROOKLINE 22 - Montour 14
Scoring Summary:
Darryl Daniels 40 run (conversion failed)
Quran Powe 20 run (Darryl Daniels pass from Brent Ivory)
Quran Powe 70 pass from Brent Ivory
(Darryl Daniels pass from Brent Ivory)
NOTES: The ten-year olds made it two-in-a-row with a stunning,
22-14 last-minute triumph over the Montour Spartans. This
Knights team is loaded with talent and speed. Now we know that
they have the heart to meet a challenge and fight to the end.
Darryl Daniels started the show with a forty yard touchdown
run in the first quarter. Quran Powe followed with a twenty
yard score. A successful conversion toss from Brent Ivory to
Daniels gave the Knights a 14-6 lead at halftime.
The Spartans evened the score at 14-14 with a touchdown in the
third quarter. Both teams stood toe-to-toe and duked it out
for the remaining fifteen minutes as the game clock ticked
towards overtime.
Then, with thirty seconds to go in regulation, Powe took a
pass from Ivory and turned on the after-burners. Seventy yards
later, the endzone celebration began. Ivory connected with
Daniels to put the final two points on the board. Game Over.
It's good to see the Knights showing the kind of confidence
and drive necessary to take the close games. That is the mark
of a winner. That alone is cause for celebration. Go Knights!
WEEK #3 - September 11, 2010
11-UNDER
Montour 36 - BROOKLINE 8
Scoring Summary:
Anthony Johnson 70 run (Brady Gault pass from Richard Stone)
NOTES: The eleven-year olds had another tough game, falling
36-8 to the Montour Spartans. The loss was a difficult pill
to swallow. The team did, however, show signs of improvement
over last week.
The defense continued to struggle plugging the gaps, but the
slumbering offense began to awaken. Quarterback Richard Stone
and Anthony Johnson connected for two long touchdown passes.
To everyone's disappointment, each was called back because of
penalties. Both efforts could have sparked a turn-around.
Late in the game, the Knights finally scored one that counted.
Johnson grabbed a handoff and broke loose for the third time.
Seventy yards downfield Anthony had bagged the Knights first
six-pack of the season. Having tasted success, Stone hooked
up with Brady Gault for a good conversion and two more points.
Success breeds success. It's a start!
WEEK #3 - September 11, 2010
13-UNDER
BROOKLINE 44 - Carlynton 0
Scoring Summary:
Joey Kalsek 4 run (conversion failed)
Connor McGinnis 1 run (Khalil Sanders run)
Malik Petite 30 pass from Connor McGinnis (conversion failed)
Donnie West 6 run (Adam Ottaviano pass from Connor McGinnis)
Tyion Powe 35 run (Malik Petite pass from Connor McGinnis)
Taylor Thornton 7 run (Edgard Fumbula run)
Interception: Khalil Sanders, Adam Ottaviano, Anthony Pham (2)
Fumble Recovery: Marty Shulik, Connor McGinnis, Jeff Arnold,
Taylor Thornton.
NOTES: Coach Donnie and his Mighty Knights laid seige to the
Carlynton Athletic Complex. With guns blazing and artillery
pounding, they totally obliterated the hometown Cougars in
this the second battle of their 2010 blitzkrieg campaign.
The Knights took a while to get their offensive guns firing,
smoldering menacingly on their first drive. A Khalil Sanders
interception eight minutes into the game was the spark that
ignited the firestorm. The next 32 minutes were frightening.
Brookline's defense formed the vanguard of the Knight attack.
They held the Cougars to minus-45 total yards and forced six
turnovers to scorch a wide path for Connor McGinnis and the
offense. Sanders led all rushers with over 100 yards. Donnie
West, Malik Petite, Tyion Powe, Taylor Thornton, Joey Kalsek
and McGinnis added sizable territorial gains of their own.
Nearly blinded by the sheer intensity of the Brookline attack,
it was difficult to identify individual explosions. But, there
were certain blasts that rose above the inferno. At D plus-19
minutes, a bad snap sent quarterback McGinnis on a wild chase.
Connor recovered the loose ball, scrambled to his left, and
unleashed a perfect pass to Petite for Brookline's third
touchdown. Moments later, linebacker Michael Roper sent chills
through the crowd with a bone-crunching hit on a Carlynton
runner to end the first half.
A sack by Garrett Martin midway through the final quarter gave
the Knights one last possession. With 1:30 remaining and the
Cougars nearing exhaustion, Taylor Thornton administered the
coup-de-grace. His scoring run brought an end to the conflict.
In a moment of irony, Brookline's victorious warriors could
hear the sound of a nearby church bell as it began to toll.
