Stebbrook Recovers, Wins Senior League
Bob Schwemmer, dean of Brookline
Little League and Senior managers, continued his quest for the career
victories record as his Stebbrook Pharmacy team staged a remarkable
comeback to notch another championship this summer.
"This was my most enjoyable of the
19 seasons I have been in the Brookline program," Schwemmer said after
Stebbrook toppled Pollice Construction, which was seeking its third
straight Senior Division championship.
"These kids were great. We
expected to split our 20 games this season. Every game was a struggle,
but they never let up even after losing the playoff opener to Pollice,"
Schwemmer said.
Sean Schofield, Stebbrook's
outstanding shortstop, snapped Jimmy Walsh's no-hit bid with a double in
the sixth inning of the third game. Stebbrook went on to fashion a 3-2
victory.
Walsh yielded only three hits, but
Stebbrook's Billy Wertz limited Pollice to only four safeties
himself.
Schwemmer upped his career victory
total to 215, excluding Colt League, and vows he'll stick around until he
reaches 300.
