1955 District 3 Champion
The 1955 Brookline Little League
All-Stars were: Bernard Boyle, Albert DelMastro, Vincent Doyle, Ronald
Heck, George Johnson, Joseph Kriss, Carmen Lebder, Paul
Moessinger, James Murphy, Robert Walton, James Patrick, Richard Platt,
Chris Terzis, James Wertz and Alan Gallagher. The team was managed by
Edward Mathias and coached by Charles Valentine.
The Brookline Little League
All-Stars in 1955 advanced to the Western Regional Playoffs by winning
the District 3 championship, then bowed out of the Williamsport
Tournament with a loss to Hampton Township.
Brookline won their first District
3 game versus North Baldwin, 9-3, then defeated South Whitehall in the
second round. After drawing a bye in the third round, they pulled off a
5-4 squeaker over Pleasant Hills to clinch the District title. The
championship game was decided in the final inning, when with two outs and
a count of two balls and two strikes, Ronald Heck hit a dramatic homerun
to win the game.
The team then played the Hampton
Township All-Stars in the opening round of the regional playoffs. The
game was played at the renovated Brookline Community Center Field,
which sported new dugouts and a temporary wooden fence studded with
advertisements from local merchants. Despite the home field advantage,
Brookline's best were handily beaten by the score of 6-0, ending their
best run yet at the elusive Little League World Series in Williamsport,
Pa.
