Melissa McLane in

Brookline's 1982 Gold Medalist was thirteen year old Melissa McLane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene McLane, shown here proudly displaying her gold medal after placing first in the softball throw competition. Melissa represented Pittsburgh in the 18th annual Arco Jesse Owens Games in Los Angeles, California on August 7.

Four other Brookline residents also represented Pittsburgh in the games. They were: Greg Crooks, Kelly Nolla, Alie Spokart and Sean Schofield.

During the 1982 Jesse Owens games, the Pittsburgh team captured two golds, three silvers and two bronze medals to finish fifth in the overall competition. It was a great day for the city of Pittsburgh, and a shining moment for Melissa McLane of Brookline.
