NOTES: Back in Week#8, the Knights of Brookline indulged their
ravenous appetite on the Spartans of Montour. Three weeks have
passed since that feast. In Week#11, raw Spartan was once more
the main course. This time, while buzzards circled anxiously,
the Knights went on a feeding frenzy. When mealtime was over,
not a morsel remained for the birds of prey. The Knights had
devoured the Spartans right down to the bone.
In this semi-final matchup, the Knights completely crushed the
Spartans. Brookline led 22-0 at halftime and increased that by
two scores before game's end. Led by Dominick DelGreco's 150
yards rushing, the Knights offense flourished. Michael Ignasky
contributed another fifty-four yards the hard way and Jerrad
Tuite threw for 137 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, the Knights held the Spartans to 154 total yards,
including 102 rushing on 36 carries. Half of that yardage came
during Montour's final drive of the game against the second
line. After some Spartan trickery advanced the ball deep into
Knight territory, the starters returned to squelch the threat,
thus preserving their hard-earned shutout victory.
After ten weeks of plundering and pillaging through the ranks
of the SSYFL, Coach Donnie's elder Knights are one step away
from the glory of Any Given Sunday. Next week they will meet
the dastardly Southside Sabres in the war to end all wars.
Director Oliver Stone couldn't have scripted it any better.
The good guys versus the bad guys. Maybe Tolkien already did.
It's the Knights of Gondor versus the Orcs from Mordor. In any
case, this game is definitely destined to be a Fall Classic.
For the stat geeks among us, here are a few cool numbers. The
Knights have outscored their opponents 329-18. The defense has
only been scored upon in two of the thirty-six quarters so far
this season. The junior players on this team, over the course
of their six years with the Knights program, have a record of
55-8. These youngsters have three titles in their pockets and
room for two more. On-the-other-hand, for the senior players,
it's their final chance for their first ring. Good luck, guys!
