8-UNDER JV GAME (exhibition game)
Thomas-Jefferson 14 - BROOKLINE 6
Scoring Summary:
Nicholas Ault 1 pass from Grant Hamilton (conversion failed)
Fumble Recovery: Grant Hamilton, Sean Smith
NOTES: The Little Knights lost a close one to the TJ Jaguars,
14-6. Although it went down as a loss, the young ones played
a fine game. Their strong second half comeback attempt was a
good example of true grit and determination.
Brookline opened the contest with a fifty yard run by Visawn
Pennix to the Jaguar ten yard line. TJ stopped the Knights
cold and took possession. The rest of the half belonged to
the Jags. Two touchdown runs built a 14-0 halftime lead.
The Knights caught fire late in the second half. A seventeen
yard dash by Brandon McGough started the blaze. Quarterback
Grant Hamilton took a botched snap, picked up the loose ball,
and forced a twelve yard gain up the middle of the pack to the
TJ 20. Brookline converted twice on fourth down challenges.
The second was a one yard scoring strike from Hamilton to
Nicholas Ault with three minutes remaining, making it 14-6.
A fumble recovery by Sean Smith with 1:33 remaining gave the
Knights one final chance from the TJ 39. A turnover on the
next play signaled the end of the contest.
WEEK #6 - October 2, 2010
8-UNDER
Thomas-Jefferson 14 - BROOKLINE 6
Scoring Summary:
Brenton Morefield 1 run (conversion failed)
NOTES: The eight-year olds lost their third heart-breaker of
the season, 14-6, to the Thomas-Jefferson Jaguars. All three
losses have been close games that could have gone either way.
After five games, a 2-3 record seems like an error. The luck
of the Irish hasn't been on the Brookline side of scrimmage.
After slugging it out at midfield for ten minutes, TJ struck
first with a five yard TD run. Brookline came right back. A
fifty-nine yard sideline dash by Jayden Payne put the ball on
the Jaguar one yard line. Brenton Morefield punched it into
the endzone to tie the game at six-all.
The score remained deadlocked until midway through the fourth
quarter. A TJ back broke free for a forty-one yard TD run. A
good conversion put the Jaguars ahead 14-6. Brookline got two
more offensive opportunities but could gain no momentum. A Jag
interception ended the game. This luck has got to change soon.
WEEK #6 - October 2, 2010
9-UNDER
Thomas-Jefferson 20 - BROOKLINE 12
Scoring Summary:
Nathan Ault 23 run (conversion failed)
Nathan Ault 57 run (conversion failed)
Fumble Recovery: Marcus Jacobs
NOTES: The nine-year olds lost a tough one to the TJ Jaguars,
20-12. It was a hard-fought game with plenty of ups and downs.
It was a game of momentum. Every time it swayed in Brookline's
direction, the winds of change blew it back the other way.
TJ opened the game with a quick fifty-three yard run for six.
Brookline answered with a sustained drive into the TJ redzone
only to fall short on 4th down at the TJ 21. Thomas-Jefferson
struck again with a seventy-nine yard touchdown run to take a
12-0 lead. Two minutes remained in the half.
The Knights quickly forged ahead on their next drive. With the
clock ticking down, Cole McMullan found a groove and scampered
twenty-five yards to the TJ 23. On the final play of the half,
Nathan Ault bootlegged left and no one was there to stop him.
Twenty-three yards later the score had improved to 12-6.
Brookline held the momentum into the second half. On their
first possession Ault again found the open field and outran
all pursuit for a fifty-seven yard touchdown to tie the game.
As the third quarter came to an end, the Knights were pumped.
Rooznee Palmer registered a sack, then dropped a Jag for a
loss on the next play. Things were lookin' good.
On the next play, a TJ pass found it's mark and a fifty-three
yard touchdown grab was the result. A good conversion put the
Jags on top 20-12. Just like that, momentum shifted. Brookline
managed one last kharma grab late in the final quarter. A pair
of first downs put the ball in TJ territory, but that momentum
faded with 1:17 to go. TJ took over on downs. Game over.
WEEK #6 - October 2, 2010
10-UNDER
BROOKLINE 34 - Thomas-Jefferson 6
Scoring Summary:
Quran Powe 7 run (conversion failed)
Quran Powe 2 run (Darryl Daniels pass from Brent Ivory)
Darryl Daniels 29 run (Brent Ivory run)
Darryl Daniels 50 punt return (conversion failed)
Quran Powe 28 run (conversion failed)
Fumble Recovery: Quran Powe, Darryl Daniels, Brad Jones
NOTES: The undefeated ten-year olds, led by the dynamic duo of
Quran Powe and Darryl Daniels, chalked up another big victory
over the Thomas-Jefferson Jaguars. Three touchdowns by Powe
and two by Daniels produced a Brookline score of thirty-four.
A staunch, swarming defense held the Jags to only six points.
Daniels and Powe put on quite a performance in the first half.
Whether on offense or defense, they seemed unstoppable. Each
scored twice, recovered a fumble, returned punts for plenty of
yardage and downed opposing runners for big losses. Had a tall
building been nearby they might have leaped that too.
Combined with accurate passing by Brent Ivory and some timely
contributions from running back Lamar Lewis, the point parade
continued unabated for twenty minutes. The halftime score:
Brookline 28 - Thomas-Jefferson 6.
The JV team played most of the second half and their defense
did an excellent job holding the Jags scoreless. On offense,
Quran Powe returned for an encore twenty-eight yard scoring
dash with 6:36 remaining in the third quarter.

WEEK #6 - October 2, 2010
11-UNDER
Thomas-Jefferson 54 - BROOKLINE 0
WEEK #6 - October 2, 2010
13-UNDER
BROOKLINE 22 - Bethel Park 6
Scoring Summary:
Connor McGinnis 7 run (Khalil Sanders run)
Adam Ottaviano 41 pass from Connor McGinnis
(conversion failed)
Joey Kalsek 69 run (Donnie West run)
Interception: Anthony Pham (2), Joey Kalsek
Fumble Recovery: Donnie West (2), Joey Kalsek (2),
Marty Shulik, Connor McGinnis
NOTES: Coach Donnie's Mighty Knights faced their toughest
challenge of the season when they stepped on the field with
the Hawks of Bethel Park. This was a bone-crunching, barnyard
brawl from start to finish. The ferocity was undeniable.
Although Brookline held the upper hand, this was not a place
for the feint of heart. There were moments of doubt and pain.
The game began like a typical Knights crusade. The defense put
the crunch on the Hawk offense. On Bethel's second possession,
Adam Ottaviano blasted the quarterback, causing a fumble that
was recovered by Marty Shulik at the BP 14. From there, the
offense bulled it's way towards the goal. Connor McGinnis put
the Knights ahead with a seven yard touchdown run. Khalil
Sanders added the conversion for an 8-0 lead.
The game then went into a stalemate phase while the opposing
lines battered each other near midfield. A partially blocked
punt gave Bethel great field position near the Knight twenty.
An Anthony Pham interception at the five yard line ended that
threat. Pham returned the ball thirty-seven yards. With two
minutes remaining in the half, McGinnis passed to Joey Kalsek
for twenty-eight, then found Ottaviano for a forty-one yard
scoring toss. Brookline held an uneasy 14-0 advantage.
The second half was a nail-biter. The Hawks blocked a Knight
punt and went hunting. With talons bared they slashed through
the Brookline defense until completing a touchdown drive with
an eight yard run. Brookline fumbled the ensuing kickoff,
giving Bethel another opportunity deep in Knight territory.
A Joey Kalsek interception ended that nasty surprise.
Two plays later, Kalsek took a reverse handoff from Sanders
and was off to the races. His sixty-nine yard touchdown run
restored the point cushion. Donnie West's conversion run made
the score 22-6 with three minutes to go in the third quarter.
Another Brookline drive at the start of the fourth period was
halted just short of the goal line.
Bethel threatened once more, crossing midfield at the midway
point of the final period. Kalsek again restored order with a
fumble recovery. As the clock ticked towards conclusion, the
Hawks tried once more without success. The horn sounded after
forty minutes, ending the best game we've seen all season.
Brookline rushed 23 times for 131 yards. McGinnis was three of
nine passing for 85 yards, one TD and one interception. Kalsek
gained 116 combined yards. Ottaviano, Shulik and Jeff Arnold
recorded sacks. Bethel Park rushed 34 times for 54 yards,
completed two of seven passes for eight yards and three
interceptions. Their special teams blocked two punts. The
Knights committed six penalties totaling fifty yards.
The Mighty Knights are now the only undefeated team remaining.
Next week's game against West Mifflin has been ruled a forfeit
victory. So, on October 16, the 6-0 Brookline Knights meet the
dreaded Southside Sabres, last year's Super Bowl runner-up. We
all know who won that game. It's time for a second helping.
