	WEEK #9 - October 24, 2010

	8-UNDER

	Moon 22 - BROOKLINE 0

NOTES: The eight-year olds turned in their worst effort of the
year during the season's final game. After a strong outing
last week against the powerful North Hills Tomahawks, the
Knights bowed out quietly against the undefeated Moon Tigers.
It was not the way we had hoped the season would end.

After a promising opening day victory, Coach Bruce's Knights
stumbled and won only two of the remaining seven games. Three
of their losses were by a mere two points. With a little luck
from the Football Gods, they could have finished 6-2. It just
wasn't meant to be. Sometimes being good isn't good enough.

These young Knights have a lot to be proud of. They've worked
hard in practice and fought hard on the football field. Their
games were exciting and their gritty play gave us hope that
the team's fortunes would take a turn for the better. Remember
the thrill of the double-overtime victory against Carlynton.
That was Knight football at it's best.

	WEEK #9 - October 24, 2010

	9-UNDER

	Moon 34 - BROOKLINE 20

	Scoring Summary:

Rooznee Palmer 4 run (Rooznee Palmer run)
Cole McMullan 45 run (conversion failed)
Rooznee Palmer 5 fumble recovery (conversion failed)

	Fumble Recovery: Rooznee Palmer
The underdog nine-year olds won the
hearts of the Brookline Knight faithful
with their spirited play all season.
NOTES: Coach Mike's nine-year olds finished the season with a
34-20 loss to the Moon Tigers. Despite the losing effort, it
was another hard-fought game. Brookline stayed within striking
distance for three quarters. All-in-all, it was a fine effort
for the last outing of the season. The kids did a good job.

Moon struck quickly with a long touchdown run on their first
offensive series. Brookline answered with a sustained drive
that took twelve minutes to complete. Offensive lineman turned
running back Rooznee Palmer pushed the pack steadily forward.
Palmer capped things off by steamrolling the final four yards
to the goal line. He added the two-point conversion to give
the Knights an early 8-6 lead.
The Knight defense stops a Tiger conversion attempt.
Moon retook the advantage with two long touchdown runs. Cole
McMullan countered with a forty-five yard scoring burst to
close the gap to 22-14. The Tigers upped their lead to 28-14
with a fourth endzone dash. The offensive fireworks continued
as Gaige Grzelka returned the ensuing kickoff thirty yards
into Tiger territory. With thirty-six seconds remaining in the
half, McMullan and Palmer moved the sticks twenty-five yards
further. The clock expired with the ball on the Tiger eleven.

Brookline took first possession in the second half and went on
another long, eleven minute march. The drive stalled at the
Moon eight yard line. On the Tiger's first play of the half,
Palmer burst through the crowd and hit the runner three yards
behind the line of scrimmage. Rooznee stripped the ball and
lumbered across the goal line for a touchdown. At 8:13 of the
fourth quarter, the scoreboard read: Moon 28 - Brookline 20.
It was a beautiful day for a football game.
The Knight offense had a productive day.
Thoughts of a comeback faded shortly afterwards. An onside
kick attempt by the Knights failed, giving Moon the ball near
midfield. Two plays later, a Tiger took off on another long
touchdown run, bringing the score to 34-20. The remainder of
the game was scoreless. Brookline's season came to an end.

Despite finishing with a 2-6 record, this Knights team showed
steady improvement as the season unfolded. Once the offense
began to click, the games became competitive. With a roster
that supplied little room for substitutions, most players had
to play all forty minutes, every game. They did a good job.
The cheerleaders did a great job this year.
The Junior Coaches deserve a lot of credit.

	WEEK #9 - October 24, 2010

	10-UNDER

	Moon 30 - BROOKLINE 6

	Scoring Summary:

Quran Powe 68 kickoff return (conversion failed)

	Fumble Recovery: Khalil Weathers

NOTES: The ten-year old Knights suffered their first defeat of
the season, 30-6, to the Moon Tigers. Stinging from the loss
of Darryl Daniels to an ankle injury, the Knights seemed out
of sync. Brookline's high-powered offense was held to a mere
seventy-five total yards, while the hard-hitting defense
yielded 216 to the Tigers, mostly through the air. It was not
a good day for Coach Joe and his Knights.
Brookline looked ready before the game.
Moon took the swagger out of the Knights.
Moon struck first midway through the opening quarter with an
eight yard touchdown run. Quran Powe answered that challenge
with a sixty-eight yard kickoff return to tie the game at 6-6.
The Tigers scored again early in the second quarter, returning
an interception for forty yards and a 12-6 lead.

Khalil Weathers recovered a Tiger fumble with three minutes to
go in the half. A thirty yard reception by Powe moved the ball
to the Tiger four yard line, but a penalty negated the gain.
Brookline turned the ball over with twenty-three seconds left.
The Knights were out-played by the Moon Tigers.
Moon made the most of the opportunity. They quickly connected
for a sixty-one yard touchdown reception, increasing their
advantage to 18-6. Then, with only eight seconds remaining,
Powe found a crease and raced twenty-seven yards downfield. He
was brought down from behind as the clock expired. The Knights
entered halftime down, but not out.

Any hopes of a comeback were shattered in the second half. The
Knights offense tanked. The defense, which was doing a decent
job stopping the Tiger running attack, completely failed when
it came to stopping the air assault. Two long completions led
to another Moon touchdown. Then, with time ticking away in the
fourth quarter, the Tigers administered the coup de grace with
a fifty-four yard punt return for their fifth touchdown.
Action, Action, We Want Action.
Let's Go Knights. It's Crunch Time.
The Knights now move on to the post-season. Let's not allow
this one defeat to spoil the positive momentum built up during
a seven-game winning streak. Let's pick up the pieces and get
back to good, tough Brookline Knight football. This was your
mulligan. It's time to get focused and ready for the playoffs.

	WEEK #9 - October 24, 2010

	11-UNDER

	Moon 44 - BROOKLINE 8

	Scoring Summary:

Anthony Johnson 50 pass from Christian Frazier
		(Christian Frazier run)

NOTES: The eleven year old Knights finished the season much
the same way it began. The 44-8 loss to the Moon Tigers puts
an end to an 0-8 season that most would prefer to forget. It
is disappointing that this group of kids had to endure such
a long and bitter year. Well, it's over now. Time for the
banquet in December. By then, the disappointment will have
faded, the holidays will be fast approaching, and the food
will be great! Hope to see you all there. Remember, whether
you win or you lose, you will always be Brookline Knights!

	WEEK #9 - October 23, 2010

Taylor Thornton 23 interception return (Edgard Fumbula run)
Khalil Sanders 46 pass from Connor McGinnis (Donnie West run)
Tyion Powe 28 punt return (Taylor Thornton run)

The Knights prepare for the slaughter.
NOTES: Coach Donnie's Mighty Knights slaughtered the Montour
Spartans, 62-0, to finish the season undefeated. The Spartans
fell to 0-8. The Knights gained the top seed for the upcoming
playoffs. The Spartans finished as the #8 seed. The two teams
will meet again next week in the post-season's opening round.

The Knights were 17-134 rushing. Connor McGinnis completed six
of nine passes for 130 yards. The Spartans rushed twenty-one
times for minus-ten. Sacks by Jeff Arnold, William Madeja and
Brendan Cunningham set them back another eighteen. Montour
completed five of twelve passes for thirty-six yards, giving
them a net gain of eight hashmarks for the evening.

After the Knight's eighth touchdown, a Spartan back took the
kickoff, broke free along the sideline and began a dash for
the endzone. Joey Kalsek identified the threat and dropped the
bogey after a forty-five yard flight to preserve the shutout.
