Brookline Knights

        10-Under                 13-Under

	WEEK #10 - October 30, 2010 - SSYFL OPENING ROUND PLAYOFFS

	10-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 20 - Brentwood 2

	Scoring Summary:

Quran Powe 71 kickoff return (Quran Powe run)
Quran Powe 32 pass from Khalil Weathers (conversion failed)
Quran Powe 30 run (conversion failed)

NOTES: Coach Joe's ten-year olds came to T-J Stadium to face
off with the Brentwood Dukes in the opening round of the SSYFL
playoffs. An assortment of injuries forced a juggling of the
Brookline offensive and defensive assignments. The changes did
nothing to stop the Knights from advancing to the Semi-Finals.
The 20-2 victory over the Dukes wasn't pretty, but it was just
what the doctor ordered to restore confidence in the ranks.
The Knights came to T-J stadium bruised and
bandaged. That didn't stop them from beating
up on the Dukes. As Shane Falco said, 'Chicks
dig scars. Wounds Heal. Glory lasts forever.'
Brookline started off with a bang. Quran Powe took the opening
kickoff and returned it seventy-one yards for a touchdown. He
added the two-point conversion to stake the Knights to an 8-0
lead. The defense held Brentwood motionless. On Brookline's
second possession, Powe caught a pass from Khalil Weathers and
dashed thirty-two yards for another six points. Midway through
the first quarter, the Knights held a 14-0 advantage.
Quran Powe scores a conversion after his
opening play 71 yard kickoff return.
The Knight defense again shut down the Dukes, forcing a punt.
A long drive moved the ball into the Brentwood redzone, but
failed to produce any points. After a third defensive stand,
Brookline took over on the Duke thirty yard line. Powe covered
the distance to the goal in one play, putting the Knights on
top 20-0 with 1:25 remaining before halftime.
Khalil Weathers puts the crunch on a Brentwood
runner. Weathers had a great day on defense. On
offense, he started at quarterback for the first
time this season and put in a gutty performance.
The second half saw a cool down in offensive production, but
the defense remained red hot. Brentwood managed to avert a
shutout with six minutes to go in the game. After the Duke's
only redzone penetration ended three yards short of the goal,
Brookline took over. A penalty moved the ball back to the one
yard line. A safety followed, giving Brentwood two points.
Quran Powe had another productive day on offense.
His three touchdowns brings his season total to 20.
That's quite an accomplishment. Way to go Powe!
The offense was led by Weathers, starting at quarterback for
the injured Brent Ivory. Weathers and Powe provided all the
offense for the Knights. Powe had 191 combined yards for the
game. His three touchdowns bring his season total to twenty,
a mark equalled by only the best Knight runners of the past.
The victory over the Dukes put some
swagger back in the Knight's steps.
The defense played an outstanding game, holding the Dukes to
seventeen yards total offense. Will Rupert had three sacks.
Weathers and Dominick Emma had one apiece. Dean O'Toole played
a strong game on the line, and Jeremy Jenkins delivered some
punishing blows. With renewed confidence, the 8-1 Knights now
play Montour in the Semi-Final round next week. Go Brookline!

	WEEK #10 - October 30, 2010 - SSYFL OPENING ROUND PLAYOFFS

	13-UNDER

BROOKLINE 6 - Montour 0 (Montour forfeits to Brookline)

NOTES: Brookline's Mighty Knights advance to the Semi-Finals.
Montour was unwilling to put themselves in harm's way for a
second week in a row. It was probably for the best. Brookline
will once again square off against the rival Southside Sabres,
this time with a return trip to the Super Bowl at stake.

It's a good time to dive deep into the the crazy world of the
stat geek. It's fair to say that Coach Donnie's Knights are on
the verge of becoming a Brookline Dynasty, if they haven't
already earned the title. Since the 2004 season, this group
has compiled an astounding 65-8 record, including four league
titles. Along the way, they have outscored their opponents by
	an unbelievable tally of 1903-374.

There are six players remaining that have been with Coach Don
for all seven seasons: Connor McGinnis, Martino Stein, Garrett
Martin, Joey Kalsek, Gino Foster and Joe Tongel. Most kids are
lucky to play on one championship team. These vested Knights
have a chance to do it five times in seven years. Now that's
incredible. We may never see a phenomenon like this again.
Come and cheer on the Mighty Knights of Brookline.
