	WEEK #11 - November 6, 2010 - SSYFL SEMI-FINAL PLAYOFFS

	10-UNDER

	Montour 28 - BROOKLINE 0

Fumble Recovery: Jeremy Jenkins (2), Dean O'Toole

NOTES: Coach Joe's Knights made a return trip to T-J Stadium
for a Semi-Final battle with the Montour Spartans and a chance
to play in the SSYFL Super Bowl. Brookline had defeated the
Spartans earlier in the year. Hopes were high that they would
again prevail. Alas, it was not to be. Montour wore Brookline
down with a relentless ground attack. By the second half, the
Spartans were solidly in control and on their way to the
championship game by virtue of a 28-0 shutout.
The Knights began the day with
dreams of a trip to the Super Bowl.
The temperature at gametime hovered around freezing and snow
fell as the teams gathered for the player introductions. The
Knights won the coin toss and elected to receive. The Spartans
executed a perfect onside kick, recovering the loose ball on
the Knight forty-three. A forty yard burst on their first play
brought them to the three. Two plays later Montour punched the
ball into the endzone for a quick 6-0 lead.

The rest of the first half was fought to a draw. The Knights
could not generate any offensive momentum. Montour moved the
ball with consistency, but could not reach the endzone. Fumble
recoveries by Jeremy Jenkins and Dean O'Toole kept Montour off
balance. The Spartans mounted a serious threat in the final
minutes of the half. Saving tackles by Quran Powe and Branden
Wysong, along with a good stand near the redzone, held the
Spartan advantage to only six points going into halftime.
The cheerleaders braved the cold
to keep the Brookline fans engaged.
The Spartans picked up where they left off in the second half.
They marched deep into Brookline territory. Another takeaway
by Jenkins halted the drive at the Brookline sixteen. Unable
to move forward, the Knights turned the ball over at their own
fourteen yard line. Two plays later, Montour scored again to
	increase their lead to 12-0.

Brookline's offensive shutdown continued. Montour had no such
problem. They scored on their final two possessions, sealing
the win and staking claim to a Super Bowl berth. The Knights
season, one that began with a seven-game winning streak, came
to an end. Montour held the Brookline offense to seven yards
for the game, while piling up 265 of their own. They gained
eleven first downs to the Knights one. Brookline moved the
sticks on the final play of the game courtesy of a seventeen
yard scamper by Jenkins, also serving as reserve quarterback.
The Hamster Dance turned out to
be the biggest hit of the day.
The Brookline cheerleaders braved the chilly temperatures and
did their best to keep the fans engaged. They surprised the
crowd by performing a new and improved halftime routine. Their
rendition of the "Hamster Dance" was quite entertaining. Coach
Darlene and the girls did a great job all season long.

	WEEK #11 - November 6, 2010 - SSYFL SEMI-FINAL PLAYOFFS

	13-UNDER

	BROOKLINE 16 - Southside 0

	Scoring Summary:

Connor McGinnis 1 run (Tyion Powe run)
Donnie West 1 run (Malik Petite pass from Connor McGinnis)

	Blocked Punt: Jeff Arnold

NOTES: Coach Donnie's Mighty Knights squared off once more
against the dreaded Southside Sabres, this time with a return
trip to the Super Bowl as reward for the victors. The Sabres
came with high hopes that this would be the day they finally
prevail over Brookline's finest. Yeah, right. The Knights had
other plans, and Southside didn't stand a chance. When it was
over, the score on the big board read 16-0 and the Brookline
Knights were on their way back to the Big Dance.
As Brookline's Mighty Knights prepare for
the coming storm, the cheerleaders prepare
the paper banner for a similar experience.
Brookline dominated the game from start to finish. A fumble on
the Knights first possession spotted Southside excellent field
position for their opening drive. The defense repealed that
charitable offering, pushing the Sabre line back. Brookline
then began an eighteen play, ten minute march that stalled on
	the Southside sixteen.

Although the promising drive failed, it set the tone for the
evening. The Knights offense ground the Sabres down with a
punishing, ball-control running attack. With 3:08 to go in the
second quarter, Connor McGinnis scored the game's first six
points with a one yard plunge. Tyion Powe added the conversion
to put Brookline on top 8-0 going into the halftime break.
Brookline's offense ground the Sabres
down with a sustained ground attack.
The victimization of the Sabres continued in the second half.
Brookline's first possession was a twelve play, seven minute
assault, capped off by Donnie West's one yard scoring run. A
conversion toss from McGinnis to Malik Petite made the score
16-0 as the third quarter drew to a close.

Southside did manage to mount one substantial offensive effort
to begin the fourth quarter. A short kickoff positioned the
Sabres at midfield. Two pass receptions gave Southside fans a
glimmer of hope. That dream, and the Sabre season, crashed and
burned on the Knights twelve yard line.
The Knight defense throttled the arch-rival Sabres.
Southside was held to forty yards total offense.
Brookline's offense gained an even two hundred yards for the
game, 163 on the ground and thirty-seven through the air. The
Sabres were held to two yards rushing and fifty-two passing.
Jeff Arnold blocked a punt, registered a sack and inflicted
additional suffering when necessary. Richie Ryan and William
Madeja combined for another Knight sack. The only blemish on
the Knights performance were self-inflicted wounds. Brookline
committed eight penalties totaling sixty-five yards.

Brookline now moves on to their fourth Super Bowl appearance
in the past five years. The Knights play the Bethel Park Hawks
for the championship at West Allegheny on Sunday, November 14
at 5:00pm. The game is a rematch of the Week #6 battle won by
Brookline, 22-6. It should be a classic, hard-hitting football
game. Come and cheer on the pride of Brookline. Go Knights!
One more week. One more game.
One more Super Bowl appearance.
One more Knight championship.
GO KNIGHTS!
